When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".

Imagery

Please use the Digital Globe Standard aerial imagery

If the imagery seems to be out of alignment with existing roads and buildings, you should apply a shift on the imagery. In the iD editor: from the menu “Background settings” (shortcut, “B” key), choose “Adjust imagery offset.” Adjust the image visually.

Buildings

  • Find a building on the satellite imagery and trace it with the "Area" tool
  • Label the area as “Building” (building=yes), then correct for right angles by pressing the “S” key on your keyboard
  • Please map all the buildings you can see within the square that you choose; if you leave some buildings unmapped do not mark the square as "Mark Task as Done"
  • Avoid having building polygons touch each other

If you cannot complete the square, click "Stop mapping" and write a comment about your contributions (e.g., mapped buildings with Bing imagery) and any issues that arised (e.g., too much tree coverage to map all buildings)

Once you have completed a square, click "Mark Task as Done" and write a comment about your contributions (e.g., mapped buildings with Digital Globe Standard imagery)

Start Mapping!

  • Remember:
    • If you cannot complete the square, click "Stop mapping" and write a comment about your contributions (e.g., mapped buildings with Bing imagery) and any issues that arised (e.g., too much tree coverage to map all buildings)
    • Once you have completed a square, click "Mark task as done" and write a comment about your contributions (e.g., mapped buildings with Digital Globe Standard imagery)
