- #toronto-building-import When saving your work, please leave the default comment but add what you actually mapped, for example "added buildings and a residential road".
Open JOSM and download the data to be imported for this task using the link in the per-task instructions. You should see loaded a cluster of ~100-200 buildings. Add an imagery layer such as "ESRI World Imagery" and make sure it is lined up with the data well enough to proceed.
Before bringing in the surround data, scan the new buildings for basic problems: unsimplified geometries partial geometries such as tiny fragments of larger buildings overlapping buildings / multipart buildings many connected buildings represented as a single way * Buildings that should have right angles but don't (use Control-Q)
Fix any problems that can be addressed easily at this stage and keep an eye on anything more complex.
Now download the surrounding data from OSM, using the standard JOSM download dialogue. Select an area big enough to cover all the new buildings. You should see the buildings for your task fit nicely into a previously empty spot in the map but it is also quite possible that they will overlap some other features, intersect with paths, etc.
Try to fix all of these issues before uploading the data, or at least as many as you can. Use JOSM's validation checking before uploading and keep an eye out for any building-related issues in particular.
